Privacy policy
Local by design.
Effective August 18, 2026
ContextScoop is a browser extension that extracts user-selected, repeated content from the current webpage and creates a local export file.
Data collection
ContextScoop does not collect, transmit, sell, or share personal information or webpage content. The project does not operate a backend service and does not include analytics.
Data processed locally
When the user starts selection, ContextScoop processes the visible content of the selected webpage locally in the browser. If page details are enabled, the generated export also includes the current page title and URL. Extracted page content is not stored by the extension after the export is created. The extension stores only the user's export preferences.
Page access
The extension uses Chrome's activeTab permission. It receives temporary access to the active webpage only after the user explicitly clicks the extension and starts selection. It does not request permanent access to browsing history or all websites.
Local storage
ContextScoop stores export preferences, such as format and whether links or page details should be included, in the browser's local extension storage. These preferences do not contain extracted page content.
Exports
Generated Markdown, text, or JSON files are created locally. ContextScoop uses Chrome's downloads permission only to open a Save As dialog with a suggested filename. The user chooses where each file is stored and whether it is later shared with another service. ContextScoop does not read or manage other downloads.
Third parties
ContextScoop does not send content to ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, or any other AI or third-party service. Links on the project website may lead to GitHub, which applies its own privacy practices.
Chrome Web Store Limited Use
ContextScoop's use of information received from Chrome APIs complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements. Information is used only to provide the user-requested selection and export features. It is not used for advertising, profiling, creditworthiness, or any unrelated purpose, and it is not made available for human review.
